Should I forget this man or pay for the wedding?

I want your readers to advice me on this.I have dated my fiance for 5years now. Whenever I ask him about our marriage plans, he keeps telling me he doesn’t have enough money for the wedding.

This guy earns 170k monthly while I earn 100k. I told him I have some cash I made from a supply, can’t we use it for the wedding? He said its okay by him. His mother called me from Benin last week and said the son told him about our marriage arrangement, that she has mapped out the wedding expenses.

To my greatest surprise she gave me an amount I can’t really explain. I have 3milion on me while she said everything will cost 4million both for the traditional and white wedding. my wedding gown is not included, his suit is not included.

Should I forget this man and move on with my life or release all the money I have for the wedding? I am troubled at the moment. I am so confused. Please advise

35 Prison Inmates To Write 2016 UTME

No fewer than 35 inmates from Ikoyi Prison in Lagos have registered to write the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Mr Vincent Ubi, the Controller of Prisons, Lagos Command, Nigeria Prisons Service, disclosed this in an interview withnewsmen on Wednesday in Lagos. He said that the inmates from the Ikoyi Prisons School would sit for the Computer-Based Test mode conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).More inmates are taking part in the examination this year, when compared to the 28 that sat for the examination in 2015. “The education of these inmates is of top priority to usLike I always tell them each time I go for routine checks in the prisons, their being incarceration does not mean all hopes are lost. “I usually remind them of the importance of education and the tremendous benefits that come with it, irrespective of the circumstance anyone might find him or herself.“Now, with the UTME very much around the corner, we have been preparing these people fully in all the subjects and they have also improved on their level of computer literacy,’’ the controller said. He told pressmen that he had drafted his officers in the facilities to assist in teaching and preparing the inmates for the examination. Ubi commended the prison officials for their commitment toward ensuring improved performance of the inmates in the examination.“I am proud of the commitment of my officers in the prison facilities in providing conducive teaching and learning environment. “The Prison Service has one of the highest numbers of educated personnel in terms of qualification. “So, we cash in on that by drafting some of them to serve as teachers in the facilities, aside other volunteer teachers that come from outside to assist.“With all these in place, I will like to say that the performance of inmates has been very encouraging,’’ he said. Ubi said that all logistics required for the smooth conduct of the examination in the facility were in good shape and intact. According to the prison boss, more inmates are showing interest in furthering their education. He said that this was with the hope that when they eventually gain freedom, the inmates would be able to contribute their quota to the larger society.Ubi said this was evident in the increased enrolment into schools in the facilities. The controller said the trend was not unconnected with the performance of their fellow inmates who had sat and performed well in the same examination. “Many of them are driven by the performance of their colleagues who have sat for the same examination and subsequently furthered their education at the National Open University of Nigeria located in the facilities.“Some of the inmates from the NOUN have posted impressive performance at the end of their studies. “Of note is one of the inmates who graduated 2015 with first class, and is currently teaching other inmates in the prison facilities. “Such persons, if they are on life sentence, we often make a case to their respective state governments and their prerogative of mercy officer will take it from there to recommend such inmates for pardon.“We have always assured the inmates of our maximum support in the area of their education and general welfare,’’ he said. In another interview, the Principal of Ikoyi Prison School, Mr Ibikunle Idris, said that 40 inmates were initially prepared for the UTME. He, however, said that because of intervention of justice, five of the prospective candidates, who were on the awaiting trial list, had been discharged and acquitted.

THE TALE OF A SPURNED CALABAR GIRL PT 3

She couldn’t understand how he could lift her from below, holding her entire body weight in his arms as he thrust deep in to her. She let out a soft moan

“Chief don’t stop”

“Don’t call me chief, like I’m some old guy call me Anthony. Besides, we haven’t even started here”.

He spoke in between thrusts, his grip was firm, his muscles were firm as steel cables. Nothing about his fit athletic body gave indication of his age. They were on the third round and he looked like he might be able to go a fourth before reaching his limit. He showed her skills she didn’t know existed in positions she never thought were possible. She was scared of him, his prowess topped that of any man she had ever been with. Each time they had sessions she would drift into deep sleep only to wake up to what seemed like a different reality where she had a life outside that room, that house and Chief’s possessive arms.

No matter how many rounds they went, she wanted more. Chief, no Tony, was like an aphrodisiac everything about his 45 year old body exuded a level of sex appeal that no man should ever have. Billionaire at 38, Nigerian Senator at 44, he was 6 feet 3’, with a muscular well-toned body and a skin so smooth it that looked like it was made of glass. His voice was unusually soft and sonorous for a man of such status and power, he seemed like he had seduced his way to affluence but his eyes held a dark light. They looked like they could sift between skin and bone to see through to the soul. Something about him spoke of an enigmatic persona, a mystery, a puzzle, a person who could conceal rage behind a smile and give a death sentence in between fits of hysterical laughter.

This man was a devilish dangerous womanizer, and he was absolutely irresistible. She came to herself after 3 hours of sleep. Her head was still spinning “Damn! What a session”

She tried to hold her head in one position and she struggles to recollect pieces of memories that were available to her shattered mind.

“So I thought you were here because of your boyfriend” Tony asked

Boyfriend… boy… friend… boyfriend?? What is that?

For a moment, the words boyfriend had lost meaning. Then it hit her… KUNLE! …. Oh no! Kayode, Yes Kayode!!

“Me! Boyfriend? You mean my driver right”

“Driver? That’s not how it looked to me when I first saw you two together, besides you did say he was the reason why you came”

“Well yes, err… Kayode has worked with my family for over 6 years. He has been very dedicated so this whole story of him raping someone breaks my heart because I know it is a lie.”

He chuckled.. “ hmmm… since when do people go out of their way to help their drivers, since when did people start to know whether or not their drivers are rapists and do tell me, how a man who was working for Eppsions oil barely 2 months ago has been your driver for over 6 years. Don’t play games with me”

He laughed hard “ You are one very poor liar, at least your ability in bed is slightly better than your ability to think on your feet or did you think I wouldn’t know anything about him?”

“I personally represent over 30% of the local funding that the AWRO women’s group get. Of course that’s only about 10% of their total funding but the AWRO operates in several countries, local philanthropist are the life blood of each national branch, they can’t afford to ignore my opinions on how they proceed on the issue with Kayode. And that is why you are here, stack naked in my bed. You need me to influence the AWRO director to stop fanning the flames of the fire that has destroyed your boyfriend”

He spoke every word in a very deliberate manner as those they were stacks of dominoes he needed to lay perfectly side by side so they don’t collapse before he intended for them to. He was far too aware of his power.

She was about to argue but he interrupted with a raise of hand

“Theres no need to, the devil is live”

He had just tuned to a local station broadcasted over the cable network. The interviewer was a dark classy looking lady in her fifties. She had the professionalism of one who had been in the presenting business for several years and the empathy of a mother.

“Be strong” she said. “the world needs to hear your story”.

THE TALE OF A SPURNED CALABAR GIRL PT 2

“Kayode, I deal in numbers …. Strictly numbers, you want to talk KPIs with me talk numbers, you want to talk cash with me … numbers, you want to talk women… numbers.”

“If Kayode dey talk when we dey talk woman matter e dey pain me. Kayode, let me tell you something because you don’t know nothing about women. NOTHING” Yemi dissed.

“Very funny, look Yemi, I’m married, I think I know a whole lot more about women than you do,” Kayode replied.

“Kayode, you know about Shade… The end! Outside her you know nothing John snow, every day you go back to the same pot of soup, variety equals zero, spoiler alert that is not sex my friend. There’s no thrill man, no hunt.”

The guys cheered. It was office gist time among the male clique in the office and as always Yemi was the champion when the subject of women came up.

“Remember that yellow pawpaw we saw at the club last week that was doing as if she doesn’t use toilet? Mchewww…. CALL ME THE PAROLE ENDER! Call me DCP – Deep Circle Penetrator! The babe left my hotel room 2 nights ago with bow legs. Who is her FADA!!! Is she mad? After 2 outings I hammered her!!”

Yemi could do this for a whole day, but luckily, the little chit chat could only last 15 minutes. As people devoured their lunch and returned to work.

Yemi was performing a cohort analysis on the numbers he had gotten from the field workers about the performance of some of the pipes in Ohaji/Egbema oil rich part of Imo state. He noticed vaguely that there was a growing chatter behind him. Something was happening at the window to the corner of the office and people were gathering steadily.

He took a glance towards the window, 8 people were there, 6 were muttering something… None of his business… he thought. He hadn’t worked for a full minute before he noticed the number was now 20 and for some reason, everyone kept starring back at him.

“DCP”

“Deep Circle Penetrator, I think you might want to see this. And bring your excel sheets with you cause there are a lot of unpleasant numbers here”. Kayode shouted.

It seemed like a joke, he would normally wave off, but Kayode looked serious and more people were gathering at other windows, no one was leaving back to their seats and most importantly, EVERYONE was staring at him.

“KayOOOO, you like drama sha, I dey come”

He walked over to the window slowly; something about the situation seemed very disturbing.

He couldn’t make sense of the first sights that caught his eyes. He expected to see a fight or maybe someone had stolen his car. **

A group of women standing outside the gate of the Headquarters of Nigeria’s biggest oil company with placards would attract any hungry journalist. And that it did.  They weren’t trying to get in, they didn’t want to see anybody, and they didn’t want any payment of any sort. They just wanted to make a statement. And they were making a very strong one.

Yemi scanned the small crowd of 15 – 20 women to understand what was going on.

Then he saw it!

STOP THE ABUSE ON WOMEN

“YEMI OTUNBAMIJO OLUKOSU,

EMPLOYEE ID 532,

PHONE NUMBER – 080389££$”,

CORPORATE EMAIL – YEMI@O***O IS RAPIST, SERIAL ABUSER AND HAS MADE ME ABORT 3 CHILDREN

.

Another placard read:

PROMISED TO MARRY ME,

INSTEAD HE RAPED ME, MADE ME ABORT FOR HIM

AND KICKED ME OUT”

Yes… that was his name, his full names, his employee id, his number and email, but who the heck were these people, who did he rape, not one of them looked familiar especially not the purported victim. Who did he abuse? His longest relationship was with Mboutidem, they had been going out for 4 solid years and not once had he laid hands on her. Cheated? YES. Insulted her? YES. Kicked her out? Well only recently but YES. Still he had never raped her! And no one had aborted for him. He hadn’t even promised Mbouti marriage. So who were these touts?

“Yemi, what is this about?” Kayode was the first to speak, his voice was low but his tone was firm.

“Are they all among your numbers”? Someone butt in

Yemi caught the pun, but this was no time for jokes.

“I have no idea” he said after a minute of thought.

“Well maybe this would explain it “Hope thundered from a distance.

Mrs Hope…

The no nonsense taker and Madam of the HR department. Needless to say she and Yemi were not close friends.

“Yemi, those women have been there for just 15 minutes and a blogpost about this little protest outside the office has already gone up. It’s on 2 major gossip blogs as we speak. Some passer-by took a picture of the women protesting in front of the office, your name is in the photo, your phone number, and all the other stuff on placard. The worst part is that the company logo is in that picture“

“Your name is out there in the world as a rapist Yemi, and you’ve dragged the company’s name into your mud. I hate to break this to you but this is bad, you’re in a lot of trouble and I doubt it can be fixed.

Yemi could literally see himself falling into a very deep well as the words “I doubt it can be fixed” went through his mind over a hundred times. He was being accused of rape, by some nobody he didn’t even know.

Who would believe him? The company logo was in the picture! Goddddd Goddd no way, no way he was about to lose this job, he would rather die. 2.5 million naira per month! Where else would he see that kind of money? NO ONE WOULD EVEN EMPLOY HIM IF THIS MATTER LED TO HIS SACK!!

THE TALE OF A SPURNED CALABAR GIRL PT 1

This was going to be the most memorable year of my boyfriend’s life.**

The smile washed away from his face as far as it had appeared. Quickly replaced by a scowl that would make you think he was eating shit
“Too salty, as usual!” he barked.
I smiled…

I had finally learnt to smile. I had had his shirt ironed and laid out for him on the bed. Pin collared checkered shirt with lovely shades blue, his trouser hung on the hangar. I took extra time with time today, straightening every crevice, every wrinkle. It was the shirt I had bought him afterall, I wanted my man to look dashing in it and stand like he was 6 foot 7 with his head in the clouds.

He left the food halfway into it. Salty and distasteful he described it. “I would rather just have some thing from Mr. Biggs or whatever”. He stepped outside to pick up a shirt hanging on the line. “No love” I said. Your clothes are inside on the bed, I’ve already laid them out.
“Oh! okay” he said.

I followed him to the room to see the new shirt I had got and ironed for him. “This isn’t mine”he said. “I got it for you yesterday” I replied.
“So did a washman do the ironing”
“No I had it ironed and all” I replied.
“You might have as well used a washman and the shirt looks secondhandish”
I mentioned the expense Lagos boutique I got it from. It was one he had spoken about himself saying they had such nice but expensive stuff.
“well who knew they sell expensive fakes though”

FUCKING BASTARD!!!

REALLYYYYYY!! My soul caught fire. I could see my self running to kitchen, picking up the frying pan with hot ororo and giving this guy a proper catholic baptism.

Click here to read "TRIGGERED : THE TALE OF A SPURNED CALABAR GIRL" - Find out the trouble of a Naija babe
Four fucking years with this bastard and year after year, sacrifice after sacrifice I was slipping into more and more disdain.
His tirade of complaint were endless.
My food is never good, my washing is never neat, my ironing is never smooth, the sex makes him cum too fast or too slow but its definitely never ever perfect. Even when I dress up for him, my make up is too much, my heels are too high, my dress is too tight. FUCK!!!

But no, you see Yemi. I love you, I love you with a dedication that knows no bounds, that’s why even when I was the second runner up for Miss Nigeria and men were flocking around me I stayed with you and your shit. Even when you had less than 50k in your account and I was the one paying your bills from the cash that was flowing in I stayed with you and your shit. Even when I had 2 senators begging me to open my legs for them, I didn’t, I just stayed….. with you… and with your shit.

And even now I’ll stay with you to finish what I started. I’ll show you that the greater the love, the greater the intensity of the hatred.
Yemi I’ve dedicated 4 years of my life to showing you all the love that’s in my heart. I’m going to dedicate this year to teaching you that hell has no fury more than a woman scorned my love. And I’ll dedicate this year of hate to you with all the passion in my heart.
So I smiled at him and said softly “I thought you would like it my love, I can return it or iron any of your other clothes for you”.
“What’s the point” he hissed as he put it on.
“You look good in it baby. I love you” I said. I kissed him softly as he stepped out of the door. Standing on the porch I could see a distance away, Sandra was standing on the other side of the road waiting for him to come pick her up. Fuck buddy, side chick, girlfriend number 2, whatever she was, they were fucking and I knew it cos Yemi wanted me to know.
I waved him good bye, I waved at her too, in case she could see me. You guys have no idea what you’ve got coming….

REAL LIFE OPINIONS ON HOW TO HANDLE A LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP

Long Distance relationship are tough as they are real and you have to be really into the other person for starters before you think of how the relationship would work. The worst is when you have to factor in time zone differences, this would and can eventually take its toll on the two parties except they are both willing to compromise. I did try a different time zone long distance relationship with someone once but like I said you have to be willing to compromise, this relationship didn’t work as well because nobody cared to compromise somewhere along the line we drifted apart. I’ve seen people, heard stories about their long distance relationship and how they made it work so here are some of the tips and advice I got from people involved in a long distance relationship;
Keep Your Walls down and be open about your emotions, the good and the bad because little obstacles can become mountains when you are apart.
Have items from the other party, a souvenir to remind you of each other.
Sent photos this makes the other person feel closer to you and vice versa.
Play online games together if you have the time, it means you can have fun without seeing each other.
Designate date nights
Its okay to cry because you miss the other person because it will pass.
Have conversations constantly about the big and little things that go on in your life.
Somethings the conversations may seem dry, get each other to read articles, gossip magazines, books to keep in track.
Go the extra mile.
Avoid playing games to see who cares about who more that’s the road to the END.
There are certainly more tips you can use but the fact is that you would discover most of this things on your own. This tips however would help you glide through your long distance relationship with less hiccups.

Nigeria to recover $759.9m Abacha, Ibori loot

Nigeria is set to recover an additional $750 million of Abacha loot, Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, said.

Malami made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja during an interactive session with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Justice.

He said that his ministry also intends to recover 6.9 million pounds (about $9.9million) “Ibori loot” on behalf of the Federal Government.

“In respect of the recovery of looted assets, the ministry will engage in an agreed waiver policy of using Mutual Legal Assistance Agreements or other bilateral and multilateral instruments.

“We will seek cooperation with other jurisdictions to ensure the repatriation of illicitly- acquired assets in foreign jurisdictions.

“The collaboration will equally involve the engagement of foreign-based counsel to attend to matters on behalf of the Federal Government.

“Low-hanging fruits being targeted in this initiative include 750 million dollars ‘Abacha loot’ as well as 6.9 million pounds of Ibori loot.”

Commenting on terrorism, Malami said that his ministry was currently processing 800 terrorism cases for prosecution.

“The resources required for the successful prosecution of these cases as well as the general coordination of the Criminal Justice Sector Act, were fully captured in the 2016 budget.

“The Ministry of Justice has made the original proposal to the Ministry of Finance,’’ he said.

The minister said that his ministry would not be able to execute capital projects this year due to the restriction placed on its allocation due to huge judgment debts.

7 Ideal Ways A Pregnant Woman Can Make An Intelligent Baby

Pregnancy could be a jolly or bumpy ride either ways it  should be taken seriously. If you don’t act responsible,
consequences can be quite severe. However, we won’t be discussing
consequences now, but we’ll focus on the positive side by listing the
things every mother can do in order to make an intelligent baby! Like with
a lot of other subjects, medical experts don’t have a common theory about
concrete things expectant mothers should do, but there are certain points
on which they agree… sort of. Various tests have been performed in order
to determine what babies respond to, and this is what we found out.
CREATE TIME FOR STORY TIME
Although babies can’t understand the actual words, reading them a story
will affect the way they feel about your voice, in fact – they’ll remember
it. You should also know that language foundations develop in the womb,
and around the third trimester your baby will be able to hear sounds and
memorize them. Besides, it’s never too early to start sharing your favorite
stories and fairy tales with your babe, so go on, get your favorite book and
start reading.
 EXPOSE BODY TO  SUNLIGHT
The sunshine vitamin – vitamin D – is quite important for you and your
baby. Your daily schedule as an expectant mother needs to include about
twenty minutes of daily exposure to sunlight. Of course, you need to take
care of your skin and apply appropriate creams. This vitamin is the key
nutrient that helps your baby develop strong and healthy bones. Some
medical experts connect the lack of vitamin D with the development of
autism, so you shouldn’t take your chances with this one.
CONNECT OR BOND THROUGH MASSAGE
If you want to put in some extra effort into creating a strong bond with
your child before that baby is even born, you should do that through the
art of touch. When the twentieth week is over, your baby will be able to
feel touches, thanks to the fact that its nervous system is developed
enough. Some research shows that unborn babies can even tell the
difference between a mother’s and a father’s touch. So, what are you
waiting for? Grab some essential oils and give your bump a nice long
massage! Besides, applying nurturing oils is quite good for expectant
mothers, because it helps with avoiding pregnancy stretch marks, and it’s
a great way to relax.
LISTENING TO MUSIC IS HEALTHY FOR THE MIND
We already mentioned how babies-to-be respond to talking, but you’ll get
an even better reaction with music and rhymes. When you sing to your
bump, it helps your baby with the production of serotonin and other
happiness chemicals. If you’re not much of a singer, you can achieve the
same effect by playing music, and you can use the tunes you sang and
played to calm your baby later.
FOCUS ON DIVERSE HEALTHY FOOD
The world is your oyster. You should eat absolutely everything that comes
to your mind, except foods rich in mercury. It’s found mostly in certain
types of fish like sharks, tuna and swordfish, so you should try to avoid
these. However, fish rich in fatty acids like salmon are very good for you,
so do your research before you eat. It will be hard at first, because of that
awfully uncomfortable morning sickness, but as soon as that is over you’ll
need to adopt routines, eat regularly and enjoy healthy portions.
PREGNANT WOMEN NEED BALANCE
While you’re pregnant, you need to listen to your body and do exactly
what it says. There should be no exhausting or unnecessary strains during
those nine months. However, it’s quite important to stay active
throughout, because your baby and you both need some exercise. There
are all sorts of smart gadgets that will be more than useful when it comes
to keeping track of the distance you cover during your walks, and they
help a lot with establishing routines and sticking to them. Your days
should be all about long rests, healthy meals and exercise – everything
else isn’t worth your while.
AVOID STRESS
The moment you find out you’re pregnant, stress shouldn’t be allowed in
your home or outside. Everything and everyone that can cause you to feel
anxious or worried need to be taken out of your life for the time being.
Your child feels exactly how you feel – even the smallest problem can
affect both of you. My suggestion is to work hard on practicing patience
through meditation, and perhaps doing some yoga – together, they will
cover your daily activity requirements and act as a stress relief
mechanism. However, if you’ve never practiced yoga before and you’re
thinking about starting now, you shouldn’t. That rule should apply when it
comes to all activities – starting with exercising after you find out you’re
pregnant will put an additional unneeded strain on your body, which is not
something you should allow yourself.
That pretty much covers it. However, you should read absolutely
everything you encounter, and consult your caregiver before you decided
to apply any of the methods, no matter how simple or well-intentioned
they seem. Every pregnancy is different, so if one women found
something to be calming and comfortable, another might not. Just take
things slow, think carefully about every decision you plan on making, and
your baby and you will be just fine.

"WHICH WAY NIGERIA";Survey has it that 45 percent of Nigerian graduates are unemployed

Nigeria needs to ramp up training and job creation
schemes for university graduates, a leading recruitment
agency said on Monday, after a survey indicated nearly
half of those with a higher education qualification were
unemployed.
A total of 41,032 (45.72 percent) of the 89,755 people who
responded to the survey on jobberman.com said they were
unemployed graduates, the Lagos-based firm said in an
emailed statement.
The results demonstrated the “need for urgent actions on
both public and private sector operators”, calling the
number of unemployed graduates “cause for worry”, it
added.
“Using this survey as a representative sample for the entire
employment age population, it is clear that more work
needs to be done to put more people in jobs.”
It added: “In addition, as employers continue to complain
about a dearth of skills among graduates, a massive skill
acquisition programme should be put in place for graduates
and more industries put in place to assimilate them.”
Nigeria — Africa’s most populous nation with more than 170
million people — is also the continent’s leading economy
and number one oil producer.
But the economy has been hit hard by the global fall in oil
prices since mid-2014, weakening the naira currency, while
foreign exchange controls have hit investment.
Unemployment has long been a concern, with official rates
currently at 9.9 percent.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who is trying to kick start the
economy, on Monday said poverty, injustice and
unemployment were the main causes of conflict in the
country.
All three have been seen as a recruitment tool for Boko
Haram’s Islamist insurgency in the northeast.

Donald Trump: We Need To Get Nigerians Out Of America

Republican Presidential Front-runner and American Billionaire, Donald Trump has threatened to evacuate Nigerians from America once he becomes President of the United State of America (USA).

Trump issued the threat on Sunday during a rally held at Wichita, Kansas, claiming that: “Nigerians and Mexicans have taken all the jobs meant for honest hard working Americans.”

The Presidential Candidate, who tagged Nigeria as a corrupt Nation, noted this as the major reason many Nigerians leave for America.

“We can’t have that! If I become president, we’ll send them all home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then maybe we’ll re-colonised Africans because obviously they did not learn a damn thing from the British!” Trump said.

Richest 62 people own same as half world’s population

An international charity said on Monday that the wealthiest 62 people on earth now own as much as half the world’s population. Oxfam said in a report released in London ahead of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland that some 3.5 billion people have grown poorer as the super-rich have grown richer. It said the wealth of the richest 62 people has risen by 44 per cent since 2010, while the wealth of the poorest 3.5 billion fell 41 per cent.

The report said almost half the super-rich individuals are from the U.S., 17 from Europe, and the rest from countries including China, Brazil, Mexico, Japan and Saudi Arabia. Winnie Byanima, Oxfam International Executive Director, said in a statement accompanying the report that “World leaders’ concern about the escalating inequality crisis has so far not translated into concrete action. She said the world has become a much more unequal place and the trend was accelerating.

“We cannot continue to allow hundreds of millions of people to go hungry while resources that could be used to help them are sucked up by those at the top. Byanima said multinational companies and wealthy elites are playing by different rules to everyone else, refusing to pay the taxes that society needs to function. “The fact that 188 of 201 leading companies have a presence in at least one tax haven shows it is time to act.

“Ensuring governments collect the taxes they are owed by companies and rich individuals will be vital if world leaders are to meet their goal to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030, one of 17 Sustainable Development Goals set in September,’’ she said. Oxfam chief said the number of people living in extreme poverty has fallen by 650 million since 1981, even though the global population grew by two billion in that time, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Byanima said much of this change has been because of the rise of China, which alone accounted for half a billion people moving out of extreme poverty. “Most of the world’s poorest no longer live in the poorest countries, but in middle-income countries like India. “The inequalities are partly to do with differences in income, especially between urban and rural areas, but also differences in access to healthcare, education and jobs,’’ she said.

Gabriel Zucman, Assistant Professor at University of California, Berkeley, estimated that 7.6 trillion dollars of individuals’ wealth sits in offshore tax havens. He noted that if taxes were paid on the income that this wealth generates, an extra 190 billion dollars would be available to governments every year. “As much as 30 percent of all African financial wealth is held offshore, costing about $14 billion in lost tax revenues every year.

Zucman explained that this was enough money to pay for healthcare that could save 4 million children’s lives a year, and employ enough teachers to get every African child into school. Owen Barder, Director for Europe at the Center for Global Development, was quoted as saying in the report that the figures suggested that the biggest causes of poverty includes political, economic and social marginalisation of particular groups in countries that are otherwise doing quite well.

“Although taxes and transfers help reduce income inequality in developed countries, these systems are less robust in many developing countries. “An exception is Brazil, which makes payments to more than 13.3 million poor families on condition they enrol children in school and take part in health programmes. “That has helped to reduce rates of both child poverty as well as inequality,” he said .

News: FG Reviews N5,000 Unemployment Stipend Scheme

The Federal Government has categorically stated it cannot afford to pay indolent Nigerians the N5,000 stipend promised to the unemployed, revealing that it will review the scheme to ensure that beneficiaries use the money for productive purposes.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, disclosed this when he spoke with newsmen at the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Abuja. He said while some people will get N5,000 under cash conversion scheme, some will get N10,000 while others may get more than N15,000 in training.

Ngige further explained that some beneficiaries would go through different training programmes before getting employed by either the state or Federal Government.

“We also have the programme on the commission cash transfer. Though, even you, the media, have said it, we won’t pay N5,000 for people to be indolent. No country in the world would pay people to go home and sleep and collect cash, so, Nigeria won’t be an exception.

“We will pay some people N5,000, pay some N10,000, and even for people in teacher conversion scheme, we will pay more than N10,000, N15,000 as stipend while in training and, then, after the training, they are going to be employed by state governments and the Federal Government in different institutions.

“It is not a programme we shall run alone, the state governments are going to buy into it; they are going to synchronise with us. We are going to do it in synergy,” he explained.

Emphasising that the present administration had some poverty alleviating and employment generating programmes, the former Senator added that the programmes would span through many ministries.

“The programmes will span through ministries of Education, Agriculture, Labour and Agriculture, because we have some agricultural universities and we plan to convert some people to teach the relevant agricultural science,” he noted.

On the President Muhammadu Buhari skills acquisition scheme, Ngige said: “The ministry has specialist skills acquisition centres; we have seven like that based in the ministry under the commissioner of skills or directorate for skills…”

During the campaign, the APC promised a welfare scheme where unemployed graduates will be paid N5,000 stipend each.

Late last year, attempts by the Senate caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to raise the issue was scuttled by the APC caucus.

“The NDE have over 120 centres scattered all over the country, we also have those that have been built by state government and we want to capture all of these into that scheme and then get people to the scheme as bricklayers, POP designers, builders, welders, electronics repairer, mecha-tronic, repair of vehicles, automobile carpentry, painting and fabrication of all sorts.

“We are going to do it, teach people, give them certification, because many people don’t know that Ministry of Labour is the only place that can certify tradesmen. This skill acquisition centres are in grades, we have grade A certification, Grade B, Grade C, D and E Certification, they all still exist.

“So, we want to get back our youths, capture them, teach them to use their hands, and when they used their hands, they can earn money by employing themselves. If you get a bricklayer or a painter today, you cannot pay less than N5000 for a daily job.

“If somebody is able to work 20 days in a month for N5000, he already has N100,000. But, today is a sad story, that is why Togolese, Ghanaians, citizens of Benin Republic, Niger Republic do all these skilled job for us. 80 per cent of workers in that specialize category in construction site all over Nigeria, be it in Abuja, in Lagos or in Onitsha, come from outside.

“We don’t know that little drops of water form ocean, the money or the naira they are paid is repatriated to their country and all of them will come at the end of the day to put pressure on naira in the foreign exchange market.

“So, we have decided that we have to train our own youths, let them use their hands to fend for themselves. We will also want to advance some of them into entrepreneurship. If you are very good, we can open a place for you and give you money through the Bank of Industry and SMEDAN and then you move to the next stage where a number of youths will work with you,” he explained.

Buhari Orders Fresh Investigation Into Chibok Girls Abduction

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that a fresh investigation be conducted about the abduction of 219 girls from Government Secondary in Chibok, Borno State.

A panel to investigate the incident is to be named by the National Security Adviser Babagana Munguno, a statement by presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said Thursday.

According to the statement, Buhari assured the parents of the Chibok girls that he was doing his best and will continue to do everything possible to rescue them and re-unite them with their families.

“I go to bed and wake up every day with the Chibok girls on my mind. The unfortunate incident happened before this government came into being,” he said.

“What have we done since we assumed office? We re-organized the military, removed all the service chiefs and ordered the succeeding service chiefs to deal decisively with the Boko Haram insurgency.

“In spite of the terrible economic condition we found ourselves in, we tried to get some resources to give to the military to reorganize and equip, retrain, deploy more troops and move more forcefully against Boko Haram.

“And you all know the progress we have made. When we came in Boko Haram was in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno. Boko Haram has now been reduced to areas around Lake Chad.

“Securing the Chibok girls is my responsibility. The service chiefs and heads of our security agencies will tell you that in spite of the dire financial straits that we found the country in, I continue to do my best to support their efforts in that regard.

“This is a Nigeria where we were exporting average of two million barrels per day at over 140 dollars per barrel. Now it is down to about 27 to 30 dollars.

“You have been reading in the press how they took public funds, our funds, your funds and shared it, instead of buying weapons. That was the kind of leadership I succeeded. That was the kind of economy I inherited.

“God knows I have done my best and I will continue to do my best,” Mr. Buhari said.

The president was accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali, Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Alhassan, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur Buratai and the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd).

MENU Missing Budget: PDP Wants Buhari Sacked as President of Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called for the impeachment of president Muhammadu Buhari over the disappearing budget saga.

The PDP said in a statement signed by its acting national chairman, Uche Secondus, that its National Working Committee “rose from a meeting Thursday charging the National Assembly to commence impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari for the various constitutional breaches especially the submission of two version of the 2006 budget”.

The party also asked the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, to resign “having failed to provide the much needed capacity in the management of the nation’s economy resulting in the embarrassing crashing of the nation’s currency to as low as N305 to a dollar”.

It called on Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to resign “for plunging the country’s currency policy into chaos an action that thrown investors into total confusion”.

“We sympathizes with Nigerians who are seriously undergoing terrible hardship because of the now obvious inept leadership of APC despite the promise of one Naira to a dollar.

“What hope can a government that allows its currency to break a 43 year old record crashing to over N300 to one dollar offer and yet does not show it has clear focus of what to do,” the party said.

“APC government rather than address very grievous national issues created by its lack of capacity to govern has instead resorted to violation of peoples rights in the name of fighting corruption” it added.
